Tired of keeping the peace?
For people who keep everyone else happy and quietly lose themselves along the way. Your voice has been there all along. This is your permission to use it, and to see which relationships can make room for it.

Sound familiar?
When you're wired to put everyone else first, you tend to attract people who are happy to take. And you already know. You feel it in your body: this isn't good for me. Trust that. It's okay to push back. It's okay to say no. It's okay to disappoint people. Learning what's best for you, and acting on it, is the way out.
Work with me
Individuals
You're everyone's rock, and no one ever asks how you're doing. You deserve to be loved as you are, prioritized and fought for. Starting with you.
50-minute sessions
Couples
You chose each other. Engaged, newly married or new parents? Put your chosen family first, then face the grandparent opinions, the holiday tug-of-war and aging parents as a team.
50-minute sessions
Families
Raising your kids differently than you were raised? Learning to relate to your parents, or your grown kids, as adults? Let's make room for the family you've chosen.
75-minute sessions
Caring.
And challenging.
Sessions are a partnership. We're a team. I listen, ask questions, point out patterns, share what I notice, and help you tune in to your body, because it often knows before your mind does.
I'll also hold you accountable, because real change happens in the days between sessions.
You don't need to have it all figured out when you walk in. You just need to be willing to look at what isn't working, and ready to do something different.
Ready? Let's do this.
Live more fully.
Die more peacefully.
Maybe it's you. Maybe it's your person.
You don't have to carry this alone.
End of life is tender. It deserves sacred space for everything that comes with it: the fear, the anger, the guilt, and sometimes even gratitude.
Whatever you need, whether that's to talk, to sit in silence, or to find words you've never said, I'm with you. It's different for everyone, and I'll meet you wherever you are.
If you or someone you love has a terminal illness, I'm here and available for you and the people who love you, one on one or together. I come to you, within about 30 minutes of Arlington Heights: at home, in the hospital, in a care facility or hospice. We can also meet at my office or by video.
Hi, I'm Megan.
Megan Irvin, LMFT · Founder, Therapyoutic
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Illinois and California, and I've been practicing since 2007 in community mental health, forensic and private practice settings. I hold a master's in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University.
I work through a family systems lens, looking at the relationships you have with others and the one you have with yourself. That second one is usually where we start.
People bring me the parts of themselves they've hidden from everyone else. I never take that lightly. When you sit with me, you have all of me: present, invested, curious. I take the details seriously, because they show you I can hold what you set down. This isn't just a job. I love what I do.
Getting started is easy.
Free 15-minute call
We talk about what's bringing you in and whether we're a good fit. No pressure.
First session
A 50-minute intake. I get to know you and your story, and we set goals together.
Start with six
Commit to six sessions, then we check in together: are you done, or is there more to do?
Fees
Private pay; I'll give you a superbill for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Near the end of life, more flexible support is available, and we'll talk through what fits on your free call.
Payment is due at the time of service (card, including HSA and FSA cards, or check). You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of the expected cost of your care.
Real questions
Where do we meet?
Illinois clients meet in person at Cocial, a coworking space in downtown Arlington Heights, or online. California clients meet online.
Will I be in therapy forever?
Nope. The goal is to leave better equipped, knowing you can always come back.
What if it's embarrassing?
There's no judgment here. Whatever you bring, I can hold it.
What if I cry? What if I don't?
Both are completely okay.
Do you take insurance?
No. Working outside insurance lets me come to you, meet as often as you need, and keep the focus on you, not on what a plan will cover. I'm happy to give you a superbill to submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Do you offer grief counseling?
My end-of-life work happens before a death, with the person who is dying and the people who love them. It isn't grief counseling after a loss.
